Five generations of the Cordy family, of Winterbourne Down.

The lady in the bonnet is Elizabeth Cordy, nee Woodroffe, great-great-grandmother of Lawrence Lowe, who sends us these pictures. Then comes her son, Charles Edwin Cordy; far left is one of Charles' daughters, Harriet Louisa Cordy. Harriet's daughter is Mrs Olive Beatrice Lack and the baby is Olive's daughter Glenda Lack.

Photo taken in Winterbourne Down,  early 1920s.

Lawrence's great-grandfather Charles Edwin Cordy, is seen here with his wife Susan Cordy, nee Weymark. Susan was a midwife and delivered many of the babies in Winterbourne Down during the 1890s and earl 1900s. They were also caretakers of the Bethesda Methodist Chapel in Winterbourne Down for many years.

Photograph taken in Winterbourne Down.

Here we have another picture of Charles Edwin Cordy and Susan Cordy nee Weymark, together with their grandson William (Billy) Cordy, who was living with them at that time.

Billy went on to live in Oakdale, Monmouthshire.

Charles had two other daughters - Beatrice Louisa Cordy and Alice Rosina Cordy.

Alice Rosina married Fred Lowe, and this is their family.

Left to right, back row first:

Leslie, Charlie, Fred Jnr, Ronald & Will.

Ladies: Gladys, Nell, Millicent & Rene.

Then come: Fred Lowe and Alice Rosina Lowe, nee Cordy.

And in front: Rosa.

They are all Lowes.

This picture was taken at Pontlanfraith, Monmouthshire, in 1939.

Fred & Alice were both born and brought up in Winterbourne Down. They moved to South Wales in 1912, but returned to Winterbourne Down in about 1920, where they lived in 'Tea Tree House', which we think still stands. They later again returned to South Wales.

Photographs and names kindly supplied by visitor to this site Lawrence Lowe,
