J Palmer, Steam Bakery, Winterbourne, Corn Factor - Delivery Van - late 1890s ? James Palmer and his son James Palmer Photo kindly supplied by Christine Hall - a visitor to this site. Thank you Christine.
In answer to an appeal for names, the following information was received in July 2007... The cart is named J Palmer - Steam Bakery Winterbourne. I believe this is my Great Great Grandfather James Palmer (born c1854) and his son James (born c1881) my great uncle. James snr was married to Hannah and had 3 or 4 children and in the 1901 census is listed as a grocer and baker and employed his son James as a journeyman baker, working at home. My grandfather Kingsley (son of James jnr's brother William), was also a baker/shopkeeper in Winterbourne Down and died in 1971. Tracey Fitzpatrick Thank you Tracey for this valuable information; but what was the name of the horse?
Kerry M Walsh writes (April 2009) to confirm the names of the above, but cannot supply the name of the horse. However, she has sent us a photograph of James Palmer (born 1854)...
Thanks Kerry
