Bristol on Old Films

John Penny has been scanning old films in Bristol Record Office, and is bringing a selection of the more interesting ones to show us.

And not just in the hospital! Derek Smith looks at the widespread presence in the Bristol area of our closest wartime ally.

 

Village Hall Centenary
To mark the Centenary of the Village Hall, there is to be an Open Day there on Saturday 21st November from 10am – 4pm, when many village organisations will be mounting small displays (including us!). In the evening there is to be a social and dance, and tickets costing £5 are available from Phil Stonelake on 0117 9567749.

The Kennet & Avon Canal

Opened 200 years ago this year, the canal company had many Frenchay shareholders: two of them directors.

in the Quaker Meeting House, Beckspool Road, Frenchay.  Admission £1

 

On Wednesday 21st October Avon Local History Association’s AGM will take place at 7.30pm at Keynsham Baptist Church, followed by a talk by Trevor Bowen on Nailsea Glass Works.

On Thursday 22nd October at 7.30, Alan Freke will be giving a talk in Downend Library about the museum’s latest book, "Precise in Every Part".

Books
Don’t forget that books make excellent Christmas presents, and the museum has many titles from which to choose. If you miss the end of November deadline, and still need a book for December 25th,

Visiting Displays.
Until the end of September the Archery display will continue.

 During October and November there is to be a display by the Village hall to mark their Centenary.

In January the Kennett and Avon Canal Trust are mounting an exhibition.

Christmas shutdown.
Last day of opening this year will be Sunday 29th November, and we

 re-open on Wednesday 6th January.
