Text Box: Thursday 8th May
7.30pm at the Quaker Meeting House,               Beckspool Road, Frenchay
  Annual General Meeting, followed at 7.50 by       'Innovation in Cinema'.
 
A short talk on Frenchay's own Hollywood star Nigel De Brulier will be followed by a screening of a few scenes from the silent classic 'The man in the Iron mask' of 1923, where De Brulier plays Cardinal
 Richelieu.
 

 
Then a short talk on Winterbourne's Henry Grindell Matthews, who invented sound cinema, followed by a few scene's from a later film (which of course had sound) where De Brulier again plays Richelieu. The evening will be rounded off with one of the last of his 114 film 'appearances' in the 1940 Walt Disney film 'Fantasia'.

Text Box: Saturday 17th May Guided walk down the Frome, looking at the sites used to power mills in times past, ending with a conducted tour of the one remaining mill wheel, and refreshments. 

Meet at Frenchay Subscription Bridge at the bottom of Frenchay Road ( has parking next to the bridge) for a 1.30pm start. Stout shoes are recommended.
